Marinalg International recently released a report highlighting the status and latest updates regarding their response to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and European Commission’s (EC) calls for technical and toxicological data regarding carrageenan (E 407) and processed Eucheuma seaweed (PES; E 407a).
Following the outreach to EFSA and EC staff by Marinalg consultant, Dr. Manfred Lützow, both agencies have agreed to extend Marinalg’s deadline to respond to both calls for data until December 31, 2022. During Dr. Lützow’s discussion with agency staff, the delay in progress regarding the development of an analytical method to detect low Molecular weight (Mw) CGN due to COVID-19 was noted as pivotal in completing much of the work.
The extension is well received, but Marinalg must continue to prioritize the analytical method development and other workstreams to ensure a successful submission.
